My first year in VA (1970) was as a freshman at Radford College...An all woman's college at the time. I transferred to VA Tech. the next year and graduated in 1974 with a degree in Elementary Education. My teaching experience includes a year of kindergarten in Blacksburg, VA, Kindergarten in Minneapolis, MN, 5th grade and 2nd grade in Galveston, TX. I decided to try a new profession after spending 2 years at home with my second daughter and ended up loving it. I became a LIBRARIAN! My first experience was at Emory & Henry College working the circulation desk and doing the tough shifts. Within two years I was running the roads from Abingdon to Knoxville to earn my MSLIS from the University of TN. I spent 10 years at E&H. I am currently the librarian at John Battle High School and love working with this age group...Kids of all ages are my delight!
I try to keep a daily journal. I find it very therapeutic and also a way a expressing feelings that I never knew I had. Sometimes when I sit down to write I don't have a clue as to what I am going to write about and those end up being the most incredible journal entries. I also enjoy trying my hand at writing poetry and have written a few short memoirs. I get up very early every morning to be able to do this and also to do some Yoga. I don't always have time to fit both in, but I try...I also like to knit, but am notorious for having several unfinished projects going on and on and on!
There are many people who have had a big impact on my life and five in particular who play a major roll in my life today and hold a special place in my heart...Emily and Erin, my daughters; Aiden and Elise, my grandchildren and David, my partner. They are pictured below.
