Ralph Stanley and his wife looking at Ralph's banjo birthday cake
Last night David and I attended the 85th birthday celebration for Ralph Stanley at the Heartwood in Abingdon. What a fine celebration it was.
Students from the Morehead State University Bluegrass Band played some fine music and it was refreshing to see these young talented kids carrying on the traditional music of this area. Jim Lauderdale also sang to the delight of all.
It was a great night...good food, great music, interesting folks, and nice surroundings. This birthday dinner celebration was to help raise money for the Ralph Stanley Museum on The Crooked Road (Virginia's Heritage Music Trail). Looking at all of the folks gathered around I think they must have had good results. I hope so.
I have not yet visited this museum but hear it is quite impressive. Have any of you? If so, I would love to hear more about it!
