I mentioned journaling earlier. 5:30 am is usually the time of day that I write in my journal. I also have a few daily meditations that I read before journaling. These being done, I turn on the music, retreat to the yoga mat and try to get in a few morning stretches and sun salutations before heading for the shower. Now, sometimes I get stuck in the journal and don’t make it to the mat, or sometimes I skip the journal and spend more time on the floor. Today it will be a morning meditation and this entry…sort of like writing in my journal.
I was thinking about last week’s class and kept coming back to the doodling. I just love it that we were given permission to doodle in class! Then I thought of a poem that I wrote quite a while back called “Pencil, Paper and Pen”. I looked in my old folder of poems and found it. It is below.
Pencil, Paper and Pen
Writing on monitor screen facing me
Slow fingers fumbling and tapping on keys
Letters pop up at cursor’s black blinking
Mind goes blank, stops working stops thinking
Perpendicular dash won’t retreat home
Relentlessly waiting for stories, for poems
To tap from my fingers, fall out of my head
Jump onto the keyboard and then to be read
Won’t do it, can’t happen, and I’ll tell you just why
‘Cause I need pen and paper to capture my cry
The old way’s the best way to scribble and scrabble
With letters and words that translate to sweet babble
The feel of the pencil, the lead on the paper
Give way to great joy, and I love the eraser!
And ink’s even better, that black liquid flow
Up mountains down valleys so high and so low
Then a Doodle takes shape on the side of the page
My fingers cut loose as if out of a cage
Several dots and a line turn into a thing
It’s not quite a bird but looks like it could sing
Then it turns into something I can not describe
But it makes me feel happy and quite satisfied
I just might go back to the writing at hand
Or keep right on doodling, I don’t have a plan
Yes, I prefer paper or pencil or pen, for
There’s something important these instruments lend
The touch, feel and smell of fiber and wood
Not to mention the ink, and this all is so good!
No, this is much better than good I must say
It’s fine and it’s excellent in every way
Now I’m finished explaining, I’ll stop, yes I’m done
And onward to pencil and paper and fun!
I need to head on to the shower, no yoga today and that is okay. Hope all have a wonderful Wednesday!
