Every year I travel to the VAASL conference in hopes of gathering new ideas and learning new techniques to use in the media center/library. I also enjoy meeting folks new to library land and visiting with old friends. There is also, one special critter that I always look for. She is pictured to the left. I usually try to find her before the opening session so I can give her a little hug. This seems to alleviate any tension that might be in the air. Last year I was a little bit late arriving and had to immediately find a table and sit down. I missed that initial hug and, having been in a hurry, was in a rather tense mode. As I tried to unwind for the speaker, I heard a strange sound that I could not identify. A few seconds later, there it was again and the person sitting next to me heard it too. She looked at me with furrowed brow and a question in her eyes as if to ask, what on earth was that? After the third deep snore-like sound and several eyes looking around (others pretending not to have heard), I turned my head and looked down...Sure enough, there she was... My special piggy girl in her baby stroller, seat-belted in, pink ribbon and bow, soft blanky underneath, grunting little grunting snores in her sleep! I was so happy to see her resting there behind me that I got up and gave her my yearly hug and a sigh of relief. The conference had begun and all was well! There we are pictured below.
